Servers
Businesses are becoming increasing dependent on their IT infrastructure for day-to-day operations.
It's essential to make sure that you can depend on your computers and networks to do business.
For example, for a business-class server Islay IT Services recommends that:
- The server is adequately sized for your current and envisaged requirements, with sufficient
processor, memory and disk space.
- The server is extensible so that it can grow to meet new loads placed upon it by being able
to cope with processor, memory and disk upgrades.
- The server has the capability to work as part of a cluster or as one of a number of servers
grouped together to provide load balancing and failover.
- The server has disk resilience (usually in the form of hardware or software RAID) so that a
disk failure will not cause loss of data and server downtime.
- The server has power and network resilience so that the failure of a Power Supply Unit (PSU)
or a Network Interface Card (NIC) does not cause server unavailability.
- Backups are performed regularly, stored onsite and offsite in fireproof safes and are
regularly tested to ensure that you can restore data when you need it most.
There are many other factors that determine whether your server implementation will be a
success. Islay IT Services can help you design a server infrastructure that can meet your
business requirements and provide you with resilient, robust systems that you can depend
upon.
